I was so excited to watch the boys compete in the Lake Stevens School District Viking Fun Run this year. I had to miss it last year and I was so bummed! Nate couldn't wait to have another chance to compete since last line he fell and came in 6th (he still made the podium though!). He was determined to do better. Luke on the other hand was a bit nervous. I think he was worried about having to defend his title since he placed first last year. Plus this year he would be in the 3rd/4th grade group, so even though they place the kids according to grade, he would still have to run with older kids. And finally, we couldn't wait to watch little Bradley compete for the first time in the pre-school/Kindergarten group!
Luke's group was the first to run. Right before his race it started to lightly sprinkle, which was a bummer because the rain had held off all day. The group had to run across the football field and then out to a cross country course and then they would circle back to finish on the track. Right at the whistle Luke had a pretty good start, there were probably about 30 kids running and by the time they were to the end of the football field I would say he was in the top 5. Well, Luke amazed us all once again with his endurance. Steadily he passed the kids in front of him, one by one till finally it was time for the home stretch! His biggest fan (Nate) was there to cheer him on!
That's right! Not only did he come in first amongst the 3rd graders, he was the first one to cross the finish line for both the 3rd and 4th graders! Talk about a God given gift of endurance!

Nate so proud of his big bro coming in first!
Top of the podium baby! What a special accomplishment for him! We were very proud of his awesome effort!
Next up was Nate's race. Right before his started, the skies really opened up and it began to dump! Poor Nate was soaked before the race even started! He still gave it his all despite the nasty conditions. He looked pretty tuckered out by the end of it, but still managed a smile!
This year he came in 4th! We were so happy for him that he reached his goal of doing better than last year!
It wasn't raining quite as hard for Bradley's race but it was still raining. We were so impressed with Bradley's effort and the fact that he ran the whole way! Here he is coming in strong and determined! Check out that form!
Since both boys placed and got to stand on the podium last year, Bradley was convinced that was what everyone got to do. Once his race was finished he was insisting on going over to stand on the podium. Tired, cold and cranky he began to pitch quite a fit and wasn't sure if he had even placed since he ran with older kids too and several came in before him. We were relieved to find out he placed 3rd and got to stand on the podium! Dodged that meltdown bullet! Way to go Brad! His brother's were very excited for him. :)
